Juba International Airport introduces shuttle services with new buses

JUBA – Juba International Airport has introduced shuttle bus services for passengers, marking a significant milestone in efforts to modernise airport operations and improve customer experience.
In a statement released Thursday, the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA) announced the deployment of airport shuttle buses aimed at enhancing passenger transportation within the airport premises.
According to the aviation regulator, the buses will provide safe, reliable, and convenient transport for travellers between the terminal building and aircraft, helping to improve comfort and efficiency during boarding and disembarkation.
“The airport buses will provide safe, reliable, and convenient movement of passengers between the terminal and aircraft, enhancing comfort, efficiency, and the overall travel experience,” the statement said.
The initiative is seen as part of the broader commitment by the airport management to upgrading airport services and improving customer satisfaction at South Sudan’s main international gateway.
The introduction of the shuttle service is being welcomed as a major improvement, particularly given that Juba International Airport has operated without dedicated passenger shuttle buses since South Sudan gained independence in 2011.
For years, passengers have often walked between aircraft and terminal facilities, especially when planes were parked away from boarding areas.
The new buses are expected to enhance accessibility for elderly passengers, people with disabilities, families travelling with children, and those carrying heavy luggage. The service is also likely to improve safety by reducing the movement of passengers on active airport aprons.
Following the announcement, members of the public have welcomed the development while urging airport management to ensure proper maintenance and management of the buses to guarantee long-term service delivery.
Some travellers expressed hope that the introduction of the shuttle buses signals the beginning of broader reforms at Juba International Airport, including improvements to passenger facilities, baggage handling, and overall airport infrastructure.
Juba International Airport serves as South Sudan’s busiest aviation hub, handling both domestic and international flights. The introduction of the shuttle service is seen as another step toward bringing the airport’s services in line with international standards and improving the travel experience for passengers passing through the country’s main gateway.
