Kiir fires Governor Jadalla after one year in office

Mr. Jadalla, sacked through a Presidential Decree read on South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Monday, was replaced by Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, who was appointed a Board member to the South Sudan Civil Aviation in February this year.
Mr Mujung also served as the representative of the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) in the Ceasefire Transitional Security Arrangement, Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) in 2024.
The President did not give reasons for the dismissal of Mr Jadalla, who he appointed as the Governor of Central Equatoria State on May 2, 2024.
The sacking of Jadalla comes amid rife speculations that the veteran politician was being coerced by the country’s top leadership to accept the relocation of the Central Equatoria State capital from Juba to Yei River County, claims his office denied.
Jadalla was the second governor the people of Central Equatoria State have known since 2020. He replaced Emmanuel Adil Anthony, who was appointed as the Governor of Central Equatoria State on June 29, 2020, following the dissolution of Yei River State and the reversion to ten states under the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
Mr. Adil served until he was sacked on May 2, 2024, making him the state’s longest-serving governor since the establishment of R-ARCSS.
